Teen hair loss???

what would cause my sister, an otherwise totally healthy thirteen year old girl, to suddenly begin losing hair? at first we thought it was just normal shedding, but she has lost probably half of her hair and bald spots are starting to appear. What could cause this? How could we fix it? Is this a warning sign or a symptom of some kind? Help!!

Teen hair loss???

This definitely sounds like an alopecia of some sort... Your sister needs to get to a dermatologist ASAP to get checked out... It is possible to start treatment immediately to slow the shed and encourage regrowth... also, have her visit www.herhairlosshelp.com as there are a number of women there who can help support the effects it will have on her mentally... Hope this helps!

If it were a guy, then there would be a decent chance of early-onset male pattern baldness.

However, in a girl, it's very unusual.

It's sufficiently unusual to SEE A DOCTOR. It may be something relatively benign, or it could be deadly serious. Only a doctor can provide a valid answer to your question.

Teen hair loss???

Sometimes when a teen starts to lose hair it can be caused by stress or depression or it may just be in her genes and skip a generation. You can go to the doctor and they will help you decide what to do but a lot of doctors put girls on birth control to help fix all the problems or w/e.

stress, cancer, if its that bad have your parents take her to the dr.

Teen hair loss???

i've heard that sometimes stress can play a factor in hairloss, but i recommend seeking help from a medical professional to locate the cause of your sister's hair loss.

just as an idea... has she started using a new brand of shampoo, conditioner, etc? it could be an allergic reaction or it could be something else.

again, she should see a dr.

Teen hair loss???

A person can suffer significant hair loss due to stress, but it sounds like your sister has a case of alopecia and the sooner she gets some kind of treatment, the better. I have a good friend who had that problem and it can last quite a while, but my friend finally got past it, so don't give up hope. Just get medical help.

Teen hair loss???

family genes? over stress with school work? eat too much msg? if not, bring her to a doctor!

Teen hair loss???
