Ok, I'm requesting people's opinions because this is a very difficult thing to approach someone about. My girlfriend is head over heels for me %26amp; I think she is a great girl, but she is losing her hair to the point where you can see scalp (she's in her earlly 30's) and I just can't deal with it. I know it sounds really shallow and I feel terrible about this, but it's a reality. What would be the best way to bring up the subject and suggest doing something about it?

My wife had hair loss not long after we started dating. She was nearly bald her hair was so thin. It didn't bother me but it certainly bothered her. She was less confident and she always was doing things to try and cover her problem ie hairstyles, hats, and scarves. She would avoid pictures and if she was caught in a picture she would try and secretly destroy it if it showed too much of her scalp.

I used this as an opportunity to discuss doing something. I asked her about the things she was doing and if she wanted to try some of the products on the market to help. I made sure she understood It didn't matter to me either way I loved her.

A lot of hair loss in women is associated with stress. So try and do more things for her that remove any stress.

Stay possitive, it's not the end of the world. You've got a girlfriend who you like and who likes you back.

If it bothers her you can always suggest going wig shopping with her. You can try to make something fun out of it,she could look like a different person with all different styles and colors. I am a hairdresser and I have a few suggestions. If your hair is breaking off then it is either dry and/or damaged. Here are a few tips:

1.Step up the quality of the products you are using. There really is a difference between salon grade shampoo and conditioners and Wal-mart brands. Salon brands are more expensive but you don't have to use as much so they last longer...therefore you come out even in the end.

2. Watch out for how tight you are wearing your ponytails or barrettes. Be care full they aren't breaking your hair. Never sleep in anything but a scrunchy.

3. Check your hair brushes to make the bristles aren't snagged on the ends. If they are the hair could get caught and cause breakage.

4. Do get a good TRIM every 3 months even if you are letting your hair grow. This keeps your hair healthy. Avoid at home coloring. Don't put anything in your hair that will dry it out like lemon juice ...peroxide etc.

5. Watch what you eat. Everything you eat becomes part of your hair including vitamins and minerals. Take a at least a daily multi vitamin to improve hair quality. Fruits and veggies are always good for skin and hair and so is lots of water!

try washing your hair at night, and leave on the conditioner over night. the next morning, when you wash it, it will feel super soft. try not to brush it when its wet because it damages it even more, just comb through a few times.. after that put a lot of leave-in conditioner when its wet for your type of hair and hair serum when it's dry. try not to blow dry or iron because it will only make it worse. you can also go to a salon and get a treatment, they tend to be really inexpensive and they really help.

You should go to the doctor and check it out, there are many shampoos out there that can be prescribed by your doctor to help this problem...it could be your birth control if the oily scalp started as soon as you begun taking it.

If you just colored your hair you must stop the lemon juice it will strip your color and lighten your hair. Try adding a little Seabreeze or another astringent (Seabreeze is best) to your shampoo and that should cut some of the oil and not strip your color or harm your hair plus you should be able to cut back on washing every day which will dry it out (just think astringent cuts oil on your face so...) I have never seen color contribute to an oily scalp, although it may be why you're losing hair. Using lemon juice on your hair after coloring is drying your hair and may be causing hair breakage. If you want to use lemon juice or Seabreeze as a scalp treatment, put it on a cotton ball, and dab it onto the scalp. Don't apply it to your hair. Do a scalp treatment whenever you feel your scalp is getting oily. If it doesn't help the situation, please go to a doctor.

It is different for everyone. I have a friend who's didn't start growing back until radiation treatments were complete. It came in very quickly at that point, and grew in darker and much thicker. I don't see why your hair wouldn't eventually grow back.

--At 20 Gy (Gray) of radiation, your hair will fall, but only temporarily.

-- At 40 Gy, your hair will fall and most likely never grow back.

Try and see how much dose you are planned to recieve, or ask your doctor or therapist, they should know what you should expect.

Although the timing varies, regenerating hair follicles may take 2-3 months after radiation ends to emerge. As others have said, there may be changes in texture, curliness in those areas. Often, some areas where hair loss occurs actually got lower doses and may recover sooner, but that is dependent upon many factors including scalp dose, whether Temodar or other chemotherapy is given, radiation technique (3D versus IMRT), and individual radiation sensitivity.

You can give the dog benadryl....its sounds like an allergic reaction....a friend of mine went through it recently....it took months to get it daignosed that hes allergic to grass....now she has to keep it mowed very short and hose him off after he plays in it, but he did get better. Sounds like sarcoptic mange. Some of our pups picked this up at the vet's office a couple of years ago. She could be allergic to something, her food brand, bedding,

her shampoo.See if you can find what she is coming into contact with that is causing this, if she scratches more, on the carpet or in her little bed etc... For the itching use Benadryl. Yes, the same kind we humans use, it is safe and will stop the itching. Try this and see if it helps

You need a deep conditioner. The blonde can kill hair. I have been dying my hair since I was probably 12, just to lighten it. It can thin your hair, only b/c your hair is being stripped of vital nutrients. You should try taking a prenatal vitamin (which is really good for your hair) and use a really good condition. Paul Mitchell or BioLage products are both great.

moisturize and it and minimize straightening and blow drying. you should probably let the blonde grow out and then once you get roots and see a noticiable change in the health of your hair, you can go ahead and dye it again, but to a darker color to get volume and thickness. maybe like a honey blonde or light brunette. then, make sure to keep your hair healthy so you wont have the same problem.

The only thing that I can really suggest is make sure you're eating a well balanced diet. Take a multi vitamin every day. Certian vitamins and minerals are used in your body to promote healthy hair/skin. My mother went to a health food store and they had vitamins SPECIFICALLY for hair.

Don't let it get in your eyes though!

Seriously, take a picture of it from all angles for him, so that he can see exactly what it looks like. Also, him tying it up is very harsh on the hair line and can actually contribute to the receding hair line without him realizing it.

sulfur has never had that affect on me. You may want to tell her to check webmd. they have drug interactions and reactions.

Did your vet do a skin scraping and test for demodectic mange? AKA puppy mange.

Because that's what it sounds like to me, it takes either oral or dips in pesticide to kill the mange mites.

I had a Sharpei that I rescued. She had all the typical health problems. She kept loosing her hair in round spots. It would come up as a bump about the size of a golf ball and then the bump would go away and the hair just fell out.

After numerous trips to the vet, and trying all kinds of test, it turned out that she was allergic to dog food, grass, dust and a lot of other common things. Only buy shampoo from beauty salons, they are not expensive and will not ruin your hair, or cause "white sands", and don't use conditioners. If your hair is healthy, you won't need them. Once you start using conditioners, you can't stop, they "eat" the inner shaft of the hair. Conditioning balm from beauty salons is fine, only use it about once a month.

Hmmm..... I was going through the same thing at one point in my life but I was little older than you are. I went to dermatologists and did everything possible that I could but nothing helped. But then I stopped worrying about it and I noticed that my hair were getting better.

So it all comes down to stress and your eating habits. You should maintain a normal diet rich in protein and somewhat fats.

Hair are basically 91% of protein and egg white is a very good source for that. Try some of Organic hair root stimulator. if you have dandruff try changing your shampoo. From my experience Selson blue has really helped me. I never knew that I had dandruff but it worked.
