Can coconut oil thicken your hair?

Does coconut oil make your hair thicker?

If not, what oils do?

I'm trying to make my hair thicker. I've been losing a lot for a long time. The thing is though, blow drying my hair upside down doesn't work because I don't really care much for the volume (in fact I used to flat iron everyday so I actually don't like volume) but my mother is worried that I'm going to lose hair (I've lost a lot, I used to have thick hair, now it's all thin) so I'm trying to get ways to actually grow more hair.

So yeah. Please help. Any specific shampoos and conditioners/products which work? Any natural remedies? ANYTHING???

It won't make your hair thicker. But It will make it shinier and condition it. If you are worried about losing hair, maybe take a vitamin supplement, it helps.

Hair thickness is genetically determined, so any difference you may see with these ideas will most likely be slight, but it's worth a try:

- Watch your hairclips and bands: metal-free are best. Minimize damage.

- Don't rip through your hair, detangle with your fingers on DRY hair only.

- Quit using shampoos with sodium laureth sulfate - it strips your hair completely, as it is a harsh detergent - even used as an irritant on lab animals!

- Don't use conditioner or styling product with any ingredients ending in -cone.

- Make sure your hair is properly balanced - if it's dry, use some coconut or olive oil on a few times a week. If it's greasy, give it a good scrub with a gentle shampoo and skip on gel.

- Check for any scalp problems - any scales? Thick flaking? You could have Seborrheic Dermatitis which when left untreated could lead to hair loss..

- Cut back on heat styling for a few days and see if the health of your hair improves - ALWAYS use a heat protectant beforehand...

- You may want to try taking a good vitamin/mineral supplement - esp. Biotin. I've heard wonders about it on the Long Hair Care forum.

- Try taking Evening Primrose oil for healthy skin, hair, nails and regulated hormones.
