My pomeranian has lost his hair exept his head area. Can you tell what should I do?

The pom has hair only in the head area and legs. The vet has done several exams and eveything is ok.He said it could just be hormonal problem.Because his overall health is good.

The very first thing is to research the problem so you are better able to make good judgments about the solution.

You should laugh and take pictures - because that must look funny as hell.

You should get him a sweater so he doesn't get cold when he goes out for walks. If your vet says it's fine, it's fine.

shave the rest of him, or find another pomeranian, shave it and glue his hair to your dog.

If you love your pup, his looks won't matter

Poor baby, probably is just hormonal. Have you thought about putting a sweater on him, so that he won't be embarrassed?

I am glad you took your little Pom to the vet and that the dog is healthy. Sooooo the only thing you can do is tell people you have a hairless Pom and have fun with the little baby! Take lots of pictures and dress it up too! You know, the little guy/girl could be chilly without the hair so you may honestly want to make sure it has a little dog shirt on or a sweater depending on where you live. Give the "baby" lots of love for some times dogs can actually feel embarrassed.....no kidding. Good health to you and your little POM!

You haven't stated how old your pup is and how long ago this started. If this is a pup of 4 or 5 months old, this is 'normal'. Enjoy and be patient for a bit longer.

sounds like it good be a food issue or allergies to something in the air or current food. not sure if you live around pine trees. those will do it. dog allergies are alike like humans. i am not sure on what brand of dog food you give. try Purina one lamb and rice. also don't give him any people food. the grease from it could be doing that as well. emma my female german Shepard had hair loss problem. we changed her dog food to Purina one lamb and rice adult. and that cured her hair loss problem.

It probably is a hormonal problem. Pomeranians are known for hormonal or endocrine hair loss conditions. Some of these diseases include Adult-Onset Growth Hormone Responsive Alopecia and Adrenal hyperplasia-like Syndrome. Adult onset Growth Hormone Responsive Alopecial tends to occur in adult animals and these animals is believed to be caused by a growth hormone deficiency. The Adrenal hyperlasia like Syndrome happens because the adrenal glans produces excess adrenal sex hormones resulting in hair loss. Both of these conditions are potentially treatable but treatment can be expensive and may be risky. Other causes may include Cushing's disease, and certain hormone secreting tumors of the testicles. You may consider seeing a board certified veterinary dermatologist and they may be able to help you with treatment and diagnostic options if you which to treat his hairloss.
