Hair loss during pregnancy???

I have lost a major amount of hair (quarter size bald spots)during my pregnancy, I am 30 weeks now...and I've heard you lose hair after pregnancy but can't find anything about during pregnancy...My nurse said it was a lot of hair loss, but was because I was pregnant. I get very depressed because I can't wear my hair up anymore, and I'm only 19...will my hair grow back or is there something I can take or use to help my hair? Thanks so much on your opinions.

Hair loss during pregnancy???

I lost alot of my hair when I was pregnate. My dr said it was due to my hormones not being in balance with each other! I have had my daughter now, she is 3 years old, and My hair has grown back in now! It started to stop after I had my first period after giving birth.

Have you had any blood work done to test your thyroid levels? I have hypothyroidism and when my thyroid levels are below normal range I have a variety of symptons...losing hair..alot of hair is one of them. During my pregnancies, my doctors are sure to keep up with my thyroid with monthly blood work to adjust my meds if necessary. You might want to talk to your doctor about a thyroid function test. Its just one possibility but definitely worth checking out!

Hair loss during pregnancy???

Hi There,

It's pretty normal for a woman to lose hair during and after pregnancy. I am not a doctor but I do know a lot about hair loss. Put simply, I believe the cause of your hair loss is stress. Physical and emotional stress are normal during pregnancy. A woman's hair follicles are extremely susceptible to both physical and emotional stress.

I believe what you're experiencing is called Telogen Effluvium, which is a stress related hair loss. The hair loss usually sets in 4-6 months after the stressful experience. Fortunately, this is not permanent hair loss and victims can expect to their hair to grow back 6-9 months later.

Ever since receiving a hair restoration procedure back in July, 06, I have a documented my results at my blog, BattleAgainstBald.com. In addition to pictures and video of my procedures success I provide a wealth of information on hair loss, its many causes and the treatments available to correct hair loss.

Check out the blog, as I believe you'll find the "female hair loss" section helpful.

Best of luck and keep the stress level low.
