Do you lose your hair under general anaesthetic?

I need to have an operation soon under general anaesthetic and I'm terrified that I will lose my hair. I already have shed so much hair from illness recently; it used to be so thick and now it's seriously like 1/5 of the original volume and I'm just so depressed and devastated and I don't want to lose more.

I looked it up on the internet that you can lose your hair again from gen. anaesthetic and I would really like to know if any of you who have had operations experienced this in real life because I've never had an operation before. Thank you so much!

No, you cannot lose your hair from general anesthesia. Anesthesia affects the nervous system, not your dermis (skin layer that contains hair roots). I have had several operations and procedures where I have been under general anesthesia. The only side effect it had on me was being very groggy when I woke up, and then saying things I probably shouldn't have said. haha. Don't worry yourself sick, stress can cause hair loss. You'll be fine. I promise.
