How do i stop a6 year lab from losing so much hair?

Not only are labs big shedders, they shed all year long. I use a furminator on my lab. It works wonders. We take a time out every day to sit, relax, and enjoy a good brushing. I'm sure that adopting any sort of ritual grooming habit will help you. There are also shedding supplements out there. (I don't know that they do any good. I've never bothered with them.)

Unfortunately, you can't really stop it from loosing hair - Labs are big time shedders.

Keep the dog well brushed and keep an arsenol of lint rollers on hand!

You really can't. Make sure you're feeding a good quality food, give the dog either 1 tablespoon of veg. oil or a salmon oil capsule daily to make sure the coat and skin are in good condition. Other than that, brush daily to get the dead hair out.

Here's a few things you can try 1. Nutro Natural Choice dog food. Lamb and Rice formula. Nutro guarantees skin and coat - reduces shedding!! for A LOT of info and benefits check out nutroproducts.com.

2. Brush him/her once a day.

3. Don't bathe it so much. That tends to dry the skin out and causes flaking and hair loss from dry brittle hair.

But a healthy coat like us..comes from what is eaten. Start w/ Nutro.

I add a smidgeon of real butter or liquid vitamins, to my dog's food. Dogs need fat in their diet just like people do.

People don't realize that when they remove the fat from their diets they turn into walking dandruff balls with dull skin and hair that falls out. I can't see why animals would be any different.

I also have a heavy shedding dog and a few things seem to help, besides feed high quality food and brushing often.

- Give your dog some cod liver, salmon or flax seed oil supplement. I usually buy them in caplets, so the oil doesn't go bad and squeeze it out on their food. One of my dogs will actually eat the caplet with his food.

- Dog probiotics! Probiotics will replenish the good bacteria in your dog's stomach and will improve things like breath and coat.. I give my heavy shedders a probiotics formulated especially for excessive shedding! You can find these at your local pet supply store. I have noticed a big difference!

I hope this helps!
