What can a girl in her 20s do to stop hair loss?

I have been losing hair about 7 years, my scalp in front is more visible now. I have oily hair, acne and recently have been gaining weight. The Dr. says its not thyroid related - what could it be? What can help me?

See an endocrinologist ASAP. If you still have acne and unexplained weight gain this could be hormonal. Did the doctor even run some tests or did he just 'poo-poo' your concerns?

I don't know what's causing it but they have Rogaine for women which could combat the hair loss.

Do you pull your hair back in a tight ponytail? That can cause "traction alopecia" in women. That means it can cause your hair to fall out, basically.

Stress and hormones can also affect hair loss, especially in women. Eating disorders, such as Anorexia and Bulimia, can also cause hair thinning and loss. Hair loss caused by one of these disorders is much more common in women than men. Life-threatening conditions can occur when the body isn閳ユ獩 getting the protein, vitamins, and minerals it needs to sustain itself.

Women have a number of cosmetic options to can make their hair appear fuller. Many women use a perm as a very effective way to conceal thinning hair. Using curlers on long hair can also hide hair loss. Women have many more options than men when it comes to hair styles that give the appearance of thicker hair. Thickening shampoos can provide some benefit. Spray on concealers can vastly improve the appearance of thinning hair.

The only thing that I can really suggest is make sure you're eating a well balanced diet. Take a multi vitamin every day. Certian vitamins and minerals are used in your body to promote healthy hair/skin. My mother went to a health food store and they had vitamins SPECIFICALLY for hair.

Also, stress can be a very big factor in hair loss. Try to de-stress your body. Perhaps you can go for an hour massage once a month (if your financial situation allows it, they're only about 80 dollars average an hour).... and they really do wonders for your whole body, mentally and physically.

Try not to use too many hair products. Many of them kill your hair and WILL cause it to be very brittle/fragile etc...be sure to condition your hair. And hot hair dryers and straightners arent great either.

Good luck with this.

Hey I had the same problem but it was after I had my baby. My mom turned me on to a product called Bee Royal Jelly its super high in Pantothenic acid which grows healthy hair, skin and nails, I also had an acne problem and it went away after about a month of using it. You can read research on what it is at www.beeroyalproducts.com great glossary and ref.page I buy mine there to, the big jar lasts me 5 months

You didn't say if you had a thyroid problem or not. If you do, yes it could be thyroid related. Also many women have experienced more hair loss on Synthroid.
