Why is my Cat losing his hair?

I have a very black hairy cat who has a main. He has always casted as most cats do, but recently he has been casting a little bit more than usual and now small bald type patches are appearing under his chin and at the sides of both ears where you can see through the existing hair. We are awair that some cats cast and change there coat for winter, but should i take him to the vet or is this normal?

Scratching because of ear mites? Does she have some reddish-brown stuff down in her ears? The mites themselves are too small for most people to make out with the naked eye.

Fleas? If she gets out at all I would think ringworm, mange and or flybite dermatitis.check her skin for fleas, behind her ears, under her armpits..around her neck..And if she doesnt have fleas i would call the vet first and ask them.

Hair loss for a cat could indacate many diffrent things. In could be that since it's winter you have the heater on in your house and he's loseing hair because he's hot. Or it could be something bad like Fleas, which can be sovled by going to a store and buy a Flea Collar of Flea medication. If you try the Flea Medication and he is still losing hair it could be something more serious like Mange or a vitiam Defincy. To be safe take your kitty to the vet, just in case.

My mom had a cat and it will lose its fur and she would have to take it to the vets to get a sedative then finally the hair would grow back until next time. They will lose their fur too if they have fleas:( Alot of cats are allergic to them.

Fur loss is often down to some kind of stress or anxiety, as is a loss of appetite, so I would really take him to the vet for a checkup. The vet will not think you are wasting their time - they would much rather have people come in at the start of a problem than when it's too late to solve.
