Lose Weight, Lose Hair??

Hair loss can be the result of malnutrition, and is often seen in anorexics or those on very restrictive diets. The diet is the most likely cause of her hair loss. If she is overweight and truly needs to lose weight, she would be better off seeing a dietician or nutritionist to do it safely. Fad diets are dangerous and only lead to failure and health issues.

Hair loss is part of the body's response to starvation. Your mom needs to make sure that she has enough protein and calcium as well as vitamin B and E to prevent some hairloss. However, anytime someone drops weight that quickly, she is bound to have some problems. Question: do her nails also turn wrinkly or develop ridges? If so then she definitely needs to stop doing this to herself because she is causing lasting damage. Suggest that she gradually cuts down. If she wants to loose more than 40 pounds, she should definately see a physician or a nutritian beforehand and during her diet to make sure she is healthy.

malnutrition. Those diets are extremely bad for you. She needs a lifestyle change, not a diet.
