I have 3 chihuahuas & only 2 are losing a lot of hair & got really bad breath in a short per

i was thinking it may be their drinking water having mildew or something like that, but that doesn't explain why the 3rd dog isn't having any symptoms.

Try flushing the toilet or at least closing the lid....

Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously, bad breath and hair loss are NEVER a good sign. It could be benign, but you need to get those pups to a vet.

Their drinking water has mildew???!!! They need clean, fresh water every day. They can get all kinds of diseases from bad water. Change the water! Clean the water containers with bleach and make sure you rinse them out good. Are the dogs outside?

Dental disease. While dogs do not usually get cavities, more than 80 % get periodontal disease by the age of 4. The disease starts with a build-up of bacteria, plaque and tartar on the teeth. The gums and supporting structures of the teeth then succumb to gingivitis, an infection which if not treated, can lead to tooth loss and even kidney, liver and heart problems.

The symptoms. Periodontal disease can be prevented with regular dental care, including tooth brushing, and is reversible if treated in its early stages. The first sign of disease is usually BAD BREATH. Other signs may be drooling, reluctance to eat[ especially hard food] or a swollen jaw or cheek.

Removing tartar. Feeding your dog dry food or hard biscuits daily will help remove the hard brown tartar from their teeth. Crunchy snacks like carrots or apples are good for dislodging plaque and tartar. However, if there's significant tartar build-up, the teeth may professional cleaning, usually done under anesthesia. Persistent problems. If you have been doing the following and their breath is still bad, they could have a serious problem. An ammonia odor, for example, can be a sign of kidney disease. Paradoxically, overly sweet breath can be cause for concern because it can signal diabetes. Any change in their breath should be investigated by your vet. Hope its nothing too serious.
